Doubtful is the designation closest to Out without committing to it. Across most leagues, players listed doubtful do not play far more often than they do.

Because the label is close to definitive, the useful work is usually one layer down: assume the player sits and look at who absorbs their role. That backup is frequently mispriced relative to the minutes they're about to see.

Watch for late upgrades in the NBA, where a doubtful tag can flip after warmups. It's uncommon, but it happens often enough that you should confirm at the pre-game report rather than locking in early.
